Aino-Maija Metsola (b. 1983) is a visual artist and designer based in Helsinki.
She uses a diverse selection of techniques from watercolour to ink, collage, markers and gouache to craft paintings, patterns and illustrations for various surfaces including textiles, clothing, tableware, stationery and books.
Metsola’s work is driven by curiosity and love for intuitive painting and crafting process. The influence of surrounding nature and everyday observations is evident in her work as well as her immense interest in colour, detail and rhythm.
Among Metsola’s most recognisable works are the numerous pattern designs created for the renowned Finnish design house Marimekko. Metsola’s designs, illustrations and paintings have been exhibited in several countries and featured in publications across the world.
Aino-Maija Metsola graduated from the University of Art and Design Helsinki in 2008.
